        @X0FSmoke is so heavy in the air that you can hardly breath, and you
remember the stories your grandfather told you about the great 1906
San Francisco  quake.  @X02You are sickened to realize that unless something
is done here--and done fast--this whole city will be reduced to smoldering
ruins. On one side of the street, newspapers blow all about from the basket of
an overturned bicycle.  Its rider is nowhere to be seen.  On the other side of
the street hamsters flee a burning pet shop.

        @X0FThough this quake was only 7.2, the devastation appears to be
complete.  @X02A man bumps into you and asks you about the painted porcelain
monkeys.  He is persistent and you realize he's suffering DT's.  Though his
body is withdrawing from alcohol, you can still smell it on him and you move
away, knowing that if you stick around, the commotion he's raising might
attract the looters and muggers to you.  If you had a knife or a good hefty
Thud in hand you could defend yourself, but you have nothing but a bit of
experience, some medicine and your good health.  It's time to move along and
help those dead and dying.

        @X0FThe world hiccups again and you are thrown down as the ground
spasms beneath you.  @X02You hold on for dear life as the hamster run over you
in panic.  You think of the man in search of the painted porcelain monkeys and
realize that you could sure use a drink yourself right about now.  It's gonna
be a long night . . .
